Our Amazing Palette of Beautiful Chickens

Chickens came to Unity Farm Sanctuary in starting in 2012

By far the greatest number of animals at UFS are chickens. At any given moment, we could have over 20 different breeds and over 150 individuals who have come to us in need of a safe and forever home. And that is just what these beautiful and fascinating birds have found here at Unity Farm Sanctuary. For no good reason, hens end up here because they are no longer laying eggs at maximum production--which can happen when they are only 2-3 years old! Some are saved from slaughter as broilers or, like our bantams, are considered too small or simply too old. Many people surrender their birds out of boredom as the novelty of having them has simply worn off. Roosters are not wanted from the very beginning because they do not produce eggs and are often considered a vocal annoyance and banned in certain towns. With many personalities and names like Harper, Nugget, Kathleen, Mufasa, and Ziggy Stardust, at Unity, we love our chickens with all of our hearts and souls!

The UFS Chickens needs grain, veggies, annual medical care, plus an occasional treat. You can become a Unity Supporter for the Chickens! Every donation is deeply appreciated and goes directly to the care of our rescued farm animal residents.

$8.32 is the cost of care for each animal each day here at Unity Farm Sanctuary in feed, care, veterinary and more

All donors are recognized as a Unity Supporter

One lucky donor pledging a gift of $499.20/year is recognized as the Unity Protector. The Chickens have their Unity Protector tor for the year!
